The torch has officially been passed. Carrie Underwood's "Sunday Night Football" theme made its debut last night to launch NBC's first Sunday night broadcast of the new NFL season.
Underwood is featured in the opening, performing the customized song in concert to thousands of cheering fans, while NFL stars also make appearances in the clip. The one-time "American Idol" winner was tapped to take over the song back in the spring, after Faith Hill announced that she was stepping down from the job.
Hill had performed the Joan Jett-inspired "Waiting All Day For Sunday Night" for NBC's "Sunday Night Football" broadcasts for the past six years.
