Roanoke County police are investigating an armed robbery that has caused temporary lockdowns at William Byrd High School and William Byrd Middle School.
According to a police news release, officers responded to the 2400 block of Washington Avenue in Vinton at 9:35 a.m. today, where an armed robbery was reported.
Roanoke County and Vinton police are seeking a suspect in the area at this time.
The release said the schools have been put on lockdown as a precaution because of the proximity of the robbery.
According to police, there is no indication of a threat to the schools.
